Summer Blow

So I've been a little MIA lately being at soccer camp for the past week, but I came home yesterday and couldn't be more happy to be home!  It was a lot of fun, but there is nothing better than sleeping in your own bed at night and having home-cooked meals throughout the day.  Now that soccer camp is over, I've kind of realized that this weekend starts August and that summer is almost over!
I cannot believe that it's already the end of July.  I start soccer tryouts in just two weeks and only have a short amount of time to cram in all the things that I wanted to do this summer.  On this list I have the beach, water parks, and the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the MET museum!
Now to the outfit, I have been loving trying the crochet trend this summer.  I love a good utility shirt and I feel like the vest adds a girly, soft feel to the what would be a very plain navy outfit without.  It's was pretty cool yesterday so this outfit was so perfect for the temperature.

Enjoy the weekend!

Black and White and Pink All Over

top h&m, shorts talula, watch marc by marc jacobs

I love the simplicity of a black and white outfit with one pop of color.
Especially during the spring and summer time when bright colors are in!
I remember I bought these shoes with my own money in seventh grade and they were all my wardrobe revolved around that summer.
I think that a pair of bright sandals are a summer closet staple that everyone needs to have.
While I'm not the person to wear bright clothes, I do love a bright shoe.

Jetsetter ...

My favorite thing about summer is that there is enough time to getaway and do whatever you want to do without school getting in the way.  I love traveling and discovering new places.  Unfortunately I haven't been to anywhere really exotic, culturally enriched, or even off the continent of North America, but I would definitely love to one day.  Yesterday I saw the movie Monte Carlo with my friends and it inspired me to write a blog post today!  Going to Paris has always been a dream of mine.  It looks like such a beautiful city and I absolutely admire the fashion there.  While packing is hard, picking out what to wear on the flight is even harder!  You want to be comfortable, but also look cute at the same time.  Here are some outfits for this complicated decision.

Outfit 1: Casual & Comfy

Tank : Target

Jeans: American Eagle

Happy travels!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I know it's only July and we still have more than a month left of summer, but I can't help but to already think of back to school shopping.  Possibly my favorite shopping time of the year (besides Christmas!), I always look forward to Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale as a start of the joyous shopping weeks to come.  Fall would definitely have to be my favorite season, clothing wise.  I just love the boots, the big sweaters, and the scarves.  I've been looking though the sale catalogue and already have my eye on several key pieces for fall that I will definitely have to add to my wardrobe.  Here's what I'm coveting:

1. Hue Microsuade Legging (page 4) Sale Price - $23.90
Texture pants are going to be huge this fall!  They are such an interesting way to add some texture to your outfit and since these are leggings, they are going to be super comfortable.
2. Hinge Faux Shearling Vest (page 18) Sale Price - $89.00
I'm in love with the color of this vest.  It will look amazing with an oatmeal color sweater and some brown boots.  It's chic and edgy yet warm and cozy.  And it's friendly to the animals!
3. Trouve Fair Isle Sweater (page 18) Sale Price - $58.90
Some may say this sweater is ugly, but I kind of have an obsession with big sweaters like these.  WIth a pair of leggings, like shown in the above picture, and some boots, this outfit couldn't be anymore me.

4. Trouve Faux Leather Front Leggings (page 18) Sale Price - $36.00
Elle magazine just featured this month how in leather pants are going to be in for fall.  While leather pants may not be the most comfortable things, these will be.  The leather paneling in the front and spandex-like material in the back, these will be the pants you want to wear everyday.

5. Hard Tail 'Drop Back' Top (page 58) Sale Price - $44.90
I love how versatile this shirt is.  You can wear it to school, to the gym, and even to bed.  There are so many ways you can wear it.  Dolman style tops like these are my favorite.
6. Nike 'Tempo' Track Shorts (page 58) Sale Price - $19.00
I love track shorts for going to the gym, going running, and even just lounging around the house.  And with the amount of different colors they come in, you'll find one that you love!

Also in the catalogue, they have great running shoes on sale on page 61, and on pages 63 though 65 they show cute looks from the juniors department.   The prices there are great and the looks are perfect for fall!

Check out the online catalogue here.

Make sure to check what time your closest Nordstrom opens this Friday for special sale times or shop online!

Happy Shopping!!

Intermix

Before this year, I wasn't really the one who took risks when it came to fashion.  This year being my first of high school, I made a promise to myself that I would take more risks when choosing what to wear.   With that said, this past year I really did step out of my comfort zone in wearing vintage, mixing different patterns, and even wearing dresses!  It did take a lot of courage, but it was totally worth it.  Now I feel extremely more comfortable with putting outfits together and trying trends.
So after that little introduction story, I would like to share with you something I learned this year about putting together outfits...mixing patterns! At first this can seem really scary, but it's actually simple and can make an outfit super fun!  When I put together outfits like these, I always keep in mind four simple rules.  Hopefully these will help you when choosing what your going to wear and give you the courage to step outside of your comfort zone!

     1. Same prints, different color.  I love this outfit that Rihanna is wearing!  All it consists of is a cheetah print top, and a red cheetah print skirt.  This outfit totally works because of the similar print however the difference in color makes it really interesting.  This outfit will especially work this season because of how big the trend of color blocking is.
     2. Large print, small print. You want to always make sure that if the prints aren't the same, that there is one small print, and one large print just like Whitney Port does in this picture.  If they are both large or both small, the outfit will not be easy to look at and the print will get lost easily.  By paring a large print with a small, you will create a balance within your outfit.
     3. Keep color the same.  Another route you can take is pair two prints that are the same color like Rachel Bilson does above.  When wearing similar color prints, it creates a sort of 'flow' that pulls the outfit together.
     4. Stripes and florals.  Okay so for this one, I really don't know why it works but the mix of these two always seem to work.  Maybe it's the simplicity of the stripes mixed with a busy pattern.  Anyway, I always love putting a stripe sweater with a floral skirt in the spring time.  Olivia Palermo definitely shows just how great this pair looks!

When it comes down to it all, I think you should just wear what you feel comfortable wearing and use your judgement when wearing outfits like these.  If you aren't feeling 100% confident in your outfit, don't wear it.  It defiantly took a long time before I was even comfortable with the thought of mixing prints.  I hope this has inspired you to take a risk next time you put together what you are going to wear.  Good Luck!

Dior Sans Galliano: Couture Fall/Winter 2012

all pictures via style.com

Yesterday afternoon, Dior kicked off Haute Couture in Paris.  It got many bad reviews froum style critiques everywhere.  From style.com to WWD, everyone had something bad to say about the show.
To me, it didn't even look like couture, it looked more like circus costumes.  They were fun, but lacked that element that puts this work in the prestigious couture category.  There were mixes of bright neon colors with geometric shapes that seemed more childish to me than high fashion.  There was definately something missing from this collection that stands in the Dior name.
I guess after changing the creative director of a fashion house after fifteen years, there will be change.  However I don't think people like that change since Galliano has put on beautiful shows for the past few years.  Bill Gaytten, the new creative director of Dior, has big shoes to fill and unfortunately this time, he failed in doing so.
